Web development trends for 2016 - Part 1

March 24, 2016

In 2015, we saw the emergence of several new technologies which includes the rapid evolution of IoT and related products such as Raspberry Pi. In this article, we will explore the popular web development trends which are expected to dominate 2016.

Motion UI

Motion UI is a Sass library widely used for quickly creating animations and CSS transitions in website development. You will be able to build apps integrated with smooth transitions and rich with predefined motions easily in minimum amount of time. Motion UI is the preferred libraries because of the addition of prototypical animated elements, which integrate seamlessly into websites.

Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) has grown rapidly over the last one year and is expected to grow by 31.72% between 2015 and 2019. According to industry reports, nearly half of the IoT development will emerge from startup companies which are in business for less than 3 years. We can also expect new devices particularly in the medical field by the end of 2016. In India, Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has partnered with Smarton, a start-up based in India to promote their IoT products. Moreover, even school students are involved in the development of IoT based applications and products.

Browser based IDEs

In Visual Studio and Eclipse, you work with windows based environment. However, in case of browser based IDEs you will directly work from within your web browser. These UI's are developed by using IntelliJ, Node.js and much more. The big advantage of browser based IDEs is that you will be able to work with the dashboard irrespective of your platform, be it Windows or Linux thus having a great flexibility to work with the UI.

Full-screen navigation design

To improve the user experience on mobile devices, developers have been adopting full-screen navigation design. For example, if you navigate a website from your smartphone and the resulting web based form jumps to a full screen, which enables you to provide content in a natural way. This trend is expected to increase substantially by the end of 2016.

Single page responsive design

Responsive design is the need of the hour for high-performance website design. The basic idea here is to build a web site to enable you to navigate it in your PC, tablet and smartphone easily. The design automatically adapts to the length and width of the mobile device and delivers content on the screen. We have been seeing the trend of single page responsive designs over the last one year and this trend is expected to grow since more and more developers prefer to build websites using single page responsive framework.

Ad blocking on sites

Nowadays, webmasters are monetizing the websites in various ways. However, website owners are losing money due to advertisement-blocking plugins. According to estimates, ad blocking in UK alone grew by 82% and reached 12 million active users. The end result is that revenues of not only the small sites but also big media sites are affected. In 2016, webmasters expects that number of techniques will emerge that will eventually neglect the effect of ad-blocking plugins. Hence, the risk of decreased revenues from ad blocking is minimized to a great extent.
